Michael Kirby is Principal Clarinet with the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and head of the clarinet department at the Conservatorio de Musica in Tenerife. Since taking up his position with the orchestra in 1987, Michael has been invited to appear as soloist many times, performing concertos by Weber, Neilsen, Mozart, Copland and Finzi, as well as participating in numerous chamber music events.
During the 2007-2008 season, Michael Kirby is once again playing with the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, giving music courses as a teacher and taking part in chamber music concerts both on the Islands and in England.
Michael Kirby has played Peter Eaton Elite clarinets since 1990. "When I first heard about Peter Eaton clarinets I immediately tried them. What a joy! They are in tune and have all the qualities that one needs as a professional orchestral player and soloist. The quality is obvious at first sight and is confirmed when they are played. My pair have been through hell and back with all the microclimates here in Tenerife, and they are fine. My pupils have also discovered them and are equally delighted. Those students who play other makes of clarinet have found that Peter's mouthpieces are fantastic. Everybody wants one! They improve any instrument. Thank you Peter, for saving the English clarinet tradition and bettering it."
