Katherine Lacy

Katherine Lacy Katherine Lacy was appointed Principal Bass Clarinet with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in January 2005. Over the last two years Katherine has also played with many of the country's leading orchestras including the London Symphony, Hallé, Northern Sinfonia, London Chamber Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Philharmonia, London Sinfonietta, BBC Philharmonic and Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

Katherine Lacy was brought up in Wrexham, North Wales and started playing clarinet at the age of nine. At sixteen she went to Chetham's School of Music for two years, where she began playing on her Peter Eaton Elite clarinets. Whilst at Chetham's, Katherine was presented with the Dennis Midwood Woodwind Prize. She then moved to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music for five years. Katherine won the Geoffrey Hawkes Clarinet Prize in her first year at the RAM and graduated in 2004 with a BMus Hons and Post-graduate DipRAM. At the Academy Katherine gave performances of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto with the RAM Sinfonia and Stravinsky's Ebony Concerto with the RAM Wind Ensemble. She also performed the world premiere of "Veni Creator Spiritus" for flute and bass clarinet by Peter Maxwell Davies with flautist Sebastian Bell.

Katherine has played Peter Eaton Elite clarinets since 1998. "I swapped to Peter's instruments at an important stage in my musical training and I believe the quality of the clarinets played a crucial role in helping me achieve my ambitions. I can't imagine playing on any other clarinets. I love the clear, rich sound they produce."
